Syllabus

The course analyses strategic situations under certainty and uncertainty. It introduces required game theoretic concepts and analyses market failure under incomplete information, moral hazard and adverse selection. It also covers “good” market and auction design and related topics.

Objectives

Students should learn (1) basic concepts and applications of game theory, (2) how to model and analyse different types of asymmetric information and resulting problems of moral hazard and adverse selection, (3) how to use economic theory to design optimal markets (e.g. in the internet). Students should learn how to apply new research based methods to problem solving. Students are enabled to critically discuss the assumptions underlying the relevant models and ideas.
